GETTING STARTED

INTRODUCTION

The aim of this web-site is to provide a basic framework to assist in the understanding of the Town & Country Planning System in Britain and to help you in dealing with planning applications and other matters.

The site provides a wealth of information on all major planning topics. To find your subject area, go to CONTENTS or the more detailed INDEX or look through the SITE MAP.

However, as you will have already appreciated, the British planning system is complex and, with the best will in the world, it is just not possible to cover every issue, nor perhaps would you wish us to - after all, you all have far more exciting lives!

This is why there are opportunities through the e-service to obtain both free and low cost planning advice or guidance, on where and how you can obtain further help. Your first port of call may be your own local authority planning office. Duty officers are there to help you with planning queries and advice on submitting applications, etc during normal office hours. Why not give them a ring. You'll find contact numbers under Authorities.

The site will continue to expand with additional information and useful links. If you have any particular areas of interest then do let us know.

This guide has been written based upon the planning law in England and Wales; although the Scottish planning system is largely similar and applications and appeals are conducted in substantially the same manner.

The information contained on this web-site is not intended to be a definitive statement on the planning system; nor should it be taken as a comprehensive or authoritative statement of planning law or policy. However, we hope it will help you in progressing your planning applications to a successful conclusion.
