PLANNING APPEALS
HOW
MUCH DOES IT COST?
There are no statutory fees for planning appeals against refusals of
planning permission. Fees are levied though in relation to enforcement notice
appeals.
The appeals procedure can be very cost effective if you select the
most appropriate type of appeal for your case.
A written representations appeal may only cost you the time and
effort in writing down your comments and posting them to the Inspectorate and
the Council. If you are not employing professional help then it is only your
time and any photocopying etc you need to cost.
Similarly public inquiries and hearings need not cost you anything
if you are conducting them yourself, although it may be advisable to seek some
professional guidance on these matters. They can be complicated.
You should bear in mind that 'costs' may be awarded against you if
you behave in an 'unreasonable' manner concerning the appeal. Equally, you may
claim costs against the Council if they act in an unreasonable manner. For more
detail go to COSTS.
